Angastaco

VALLES CALCHAQUIES

It is crossed by the river that bears the same name and the main wealth is the cultivation of the vine, which was brought by the Jesuits from Chile. It is characterized by its tranquility and beautiful landscapes with vineyards.

Tour around the town
Angastaco is located 245 kilometers from the city of Salta, along National Route 40. The adobe houses with external galleries, pancake roofs and whitewashed fronts, follow one another along 2 or 3 km, under a clear blue sky, hills and bare and arid plains, along with the bright green of the intensely cultivated land, make it a beautiful place to visit. The town has a beautiful Hosteria, a Civic Center, an Archaeological Museum, the wonderful church located in a corner of the square, with its native handicrafts, its regional wines and "pateros" and its incomparable aroma of mistela.

El Carmen Church
This beautiful church is located on a hill, taking care of its inhabitants; it has a colonial architectural style built by the Municipality of Angastaco at the end of the 70s.

Patron Saint Festivities
They are in honor of Our Lady of the Valley and are celebrated in December, with a procession through the streets of the town, gaucho skills and regional food.

Agricultural production
The main crops of these lands are grapes, cereals, fruits and some spices such as paprika, anise and cumin.

The Wine Route
It is located in the Calchaquíes Valleys and is the most important wine production area in Salta. It has a dry and temperate climate, optimal for the cultivation and production of Torrontés and other grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Tannat, Bonarda, Syrah, Barbera and Tempranillo. It crosses places with very striking landscapes such as the Quebrada de las Flechas, Quebrada de las Conchas and centenary towns such as Molinos and Cachi with an enormous cultural richness that is expressed in music and music.

Torrontés wine of Angastaco
Within the Wine Route tourist circuit in the Calchaquí Valley, Angastaco is synonymous with good wine, especially torrontés, which its inhabitants have been making for many years.

Grape and Patero Wine Festival
Angastaco is characterized by the quality of its wines; that is why this festival is held here with the participation of numerous folkloric groups, bagualeros and dances, with a great regional food fair.

Angastaco Natural Monument
In Angastaco there is a lunar landscape sculpted by nature itself. It is a geographical feature that extends for 20 km from the town of Angastaco to the Calchaquí River; the most striking formations are Corte El Ventisquero, Quebrada de Las Flechas and Corte El Cañón. This area was declared a Natural Monument in 1995 by provincial law. In terms of flora and fauna, there is an abundance of jarillales, heather and small-leafed creeping plants; some of the mammals recorded in the area are the big-eared bat, the common parakeet and the small cuis. The small gray fox is also easily spotted.

Los Colorados
It is a place located a few kilometers from Angastaco, to the west. It is something that is really worth knowing, it is an enormous natural amphitheater surrounded by multicolored mountains in which an intense red predominates. The charms of Los Colorados are not limited to the geography, to the landscape. In the center of this amphitheater, religiosity and art have combined to offer us "El Cristo de la Humildad y de la Paciencia" (Christ of Humility and Patience) made by an artist from Salta.

Quebrada de las Flechas 
It is an incredible landscape in the middle of National Route N° 40- km 4407. These steep rock formations form narrow gorges with walls of 20 meters high, becoming one of the most attractive tourist attractions in the Calchaquí Valley.
