Cachi is an authentic town with stone streets and natural charm. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and cacti, 162 km (4hs) from the city of Salta and 2,210 meters above sea level, Cachi is a special town where rich archaeological remains, witnesses of ancient civilizations, are perfectly combined with an incredible natural landscape. Around the square there are typical bars, high sidewalks and cobblestone streets. Around the Central Square is the Church of Cachi. It began to be built in the 16th century and has been declared a National Historic Monument. Its patron saint is San José, whose feast day is in March.
Patron Saint Festivities
They are celebrated in March, they begin on the eve with the arrival of mass boys with their little saints from different places, they are located in the museum's hall in front of the square, awaiting the celebration of the mass, the Burning of Cardones, then the fireworks and the artistic evening. The "Quema de Cardones" is the demonstration of the fervor and devotion of the people to the Patron Saint San José by means of an offering that symbolizes the light of life, the Holy Spirit. At present, 20% of the wood from old fallen cardones is used, while the rest is replaced by other wood, since this is a protected species.
Holy Week in Cachi
You can enjoy Holy Week in Cachi, an event that preserves ancestral traditions such as the Burning of the Judas, where the villagers prepare a giant doll filled with pyrotechnics that is lit at midnight on Good Friday. In addition, there is an emotional living Stations of the Cross in which local inhabitants participate.
