Cafayate is one of the most spectacular places in Argentina. Surrounded by multicolored mountains, you can visit the highest wine route in the world and enjoy the ideal place to practice adventure tourism.

The town
Cafayate is located 192 km from Salta and is recognized by the reddish rock formations that are crossed to reach it; there you can visit different wineries and taste the exquisite wines such as Torrontés, the characteristic grape of the area.

Nuestra Señora del Rosario Cathedral
One of the most beautiful churches in Salta. It was built in 1885 and is one of the few South American churches that preserves its five original naves. In October the festivities in honor of the Virgen del Rosario, patron saint of the town and the agriculture, with procession and parade of institutions, forts of gauchos and agricultural machinery.

The Handicraft Market
It is the ideal place to try and buy some authentic handicrafts from Cafayate. There, in addition to original pieces, the artisans show visitors the ancestral techniques of their noble profession.

Craft fairs and workshops
Cafayate stands out for its production of handicrafts in pieces of pottery, silver and loom that can be found in the typical craft fairs or, better yet, in the workshops where you can enjoy the magic of local artisans.

The Highest Wine Route in the World
Located in the heart of the Calchaquí Valleys, 186 km (3hs 30min) from Salta, Cafayate is known worldwide for being part of the highest wine route in the world with the highest concentration of wineries. The thermal amplitude of the area and the composition of the soil favor its own organoleptic characteristics with a high concentration of aromas, flavors and colors. The Torrontés wine stands out for its intense aroma and fruity flavor.

Wine tourism
The Calchaquí Valleys are a high altitude wine oasis. The Salta Wine Route runs through it and includes more than 60 providers, including wineries, hotels, travel agencies and gastronomic producers. The altitude of the vineyards (from 1,600 to 3,100 meters above sea level), the torrontés grape, the Museum of the Vine and Wine and a calendar of thematic events have positioned Salta as the second wine tourism destination in Argentina. Ninety-nine percent of the grapes produced are for fine varietal wines, a unique rate in the country. Salta exports 1.5 million liters to 30 countries, representing almost 10% of the country's total.

Vine and Wine Museum
It is one of the most innovative museums in technology in the country; you can learn all about the wine production of this region, with images, sounds and simulations that make the visitor feel part of the experience, being greeted by the harvesters, walking on the irrigation ditches and living a sunrise or sunset in the village.

A curiosity: wine ice cream
Cafayate always has something to surprise. Something curious and not to be missed is the wine ice cream. Made for several decades by a local ice cream shop, this rich product in its variants cabernet, malbec and torrontés, is the ideal complement for after meals.

Spa and Wine Therapy
After an intense day, there is nothing better than a good rest. Cafayate has spa services and in some of the hotels it is possible to enjoy something very special: therapies with local wines.

Homemade and handcrafted wine route
This project seeks to structure a tourist route based on the production of artisanal wines from the Calchaquí Valleys of the Province of Salta, to facilitate the development of an offer based on local entrepreneurs and producers who find in tourism a way to improve their income, to value products such as mistela wine, characteristic of our Province, and to diversify the tourist offer of the region. It includes different stages such as those referred to the development of tools, procedures and agreements for the implementation of the initiative and the development of the route through the registration of the producers, the attention to legal and investment issues and the commercialization of the particular undertakings and of the route in general.

Serenade to Cafayate
It takes place in February and is one of the most important festivals of the Calchaquí Valley, where the music of Salta is shown in all its splendor, summoning the best folkloric artists of the country.

Folkloric Peñas and our traditional music
Wine is one of the products that most identifies Cafayate. In the folkloric peñas it is possible to live a musical moment accompanied by our typical dishes and wines where the artists transmit the great affection of the people of Salta for their land.

Local gastronomy
Cafayate has an important gastronomic plaza that offers the most varied dishes and menus for the tasting of those who visit it. The regional gastronomy stands out with exquisite authentic dishes such as empanadas, tamales, humitas, kid casserole, carbonada, goat cheese, fruits such as grapes, figs, quinces, dried fruits, high altitude wines, artisan wines and mistela, all with local products. The gourmet cuisine also adds a distinctive touch through the fusion of both, to offer visitors the possibility of an optimal pairing with the wines produced in the area.

Golf in a unique place
Practicing this sport in the midst of incredible landscapes is a must in this place. With an 18-hole golf course designed by Bob Cupp, Cafayate is the venue for national and international tournaments that attract a large number of fans of this passion.

A place like a movie
There are few places with landscapes as impressive as those found here. That is why Cafayate is constantly chosen as the setting for movies and national and international advertising productions.

The Medanos
Located 6 km from Cafayate, it is an ideal place for walking, for guitar playing at sunset or for horseback riding in the moonlight. At sunset, when the sun goes down, the dunes are the best place to enjoy the incredible colors of the Calchaquí Valleys.

A walk through El Divisadero
In Paraje El Divisadero, 6 kilometers from the center of Cafayate, you can enjoy La Cueva del Suri (circuit with cave paintings), visits to wineries, Rural Community Tourism and excursions to the Colorado River Waterfall.

Mountain Biking in the Quebrada de las Conchas Gorge
It is one of the most sought after trails by sportsmen from all over the world. The incredible landscapes of National Route N°68 and the possibility of combining it with visits to neighboring provinces make this circuit one of the most outstanding in Argentina.

Landscape and service
This city is the second most important tourist center in the province and has the ideal elements for the organization of events. The high level of its hotels, the glamour provided by the Wine Route and the most imposing landscapes make it one of the most outstanding places for the organization of events, incentive trips, weddings, advertising productions and national and international films.

Tolombón
This small and picturesque village is located 14 km from Cafayate. Nearby, at the foot of the Sierra del Cajón, is an ancient pre-Hispanic city considered the political capital of the Calchaquí nations and the seat of the famous Cacique Juan Calchaquí. The building extends on the slopes of a hill, but the vegetation is so tangled that it is difficult to notice at first sight. Here you can find wineries, hotels, places to eat and spend the day. In January, the Añapa Festival (a drink made from the fruit of the carob tree) is held. Its patronal feast is in July in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.

Yacochuya and San Luis landscapes embraced by a belt of vineyards.
Yacochuya is located 6 km northwest of the center of Cafayate. Here too the landscape captures us with its colorful hills and tree species. Not only can we enjoy it but also the wineries located in that area. Likewise, it invites us to spend the day, walk around this place and take advantage of the unique view of the valley. The place of San Luis is located 5km west of the center of Cafayate, bordered by the Chusca River, a wooded ditch, the old Inca road and several wine estates. This site has the particularity of being surrounded by ancient pircas, made by indigenous communities, which are in a good state of preservation.

Quebrada de las Conchas a protected landscape
The Quebrada de las Conchas Provincial Reserve protects the flora and fauna of one of the most spectacular places in Argentina. It is the most visited protected area in the province and is ideal for incredible hikes amidst multicolored mountains, dunes and strange rock formations.

Rural Tourism Network
It is an option to live authentic experiences, experiential tourism, intercultural nature, where a friendly meeting space has been created for the responsible traveler: craft workshops, horseback riding, hiking, practice of rural and daily activities, or circuits in vineyards and artisan wineries, in the company of the villagers. These activities are half-day, one-day or overnight experiences lasting more than two days.
