El Quebrachal
VALLE HISTÓRICO Y GAUCHO
El Quebrachal is a city in the department of Anta, 255 km (3 hours) from Salta. It is crossed by National Route 16, forming part of the Bi-Oceanic Corridor that connects Salta with the Atlantic and the Pacific.
In the middle of the 16th century, the Jesuits founded a Mission on a mountain of red and white quebrachos, which they abandoned due to the constant stalking of original inhabitants.
After the earthquake that destroyed Esteco around 1692, the survivors sought refuge in the ruins of the Jesuit order, which they later called Quebrachal, and thus this town was born. On the third Sunday of November, the festival of Cristo Rey, the local patron, is celebrated, which brings together local and national artists.
This area stands out for the production of beans, livestock activity and cotton production, one of the most important in Argentina.
