General Mosconi
SELVA DE MONTAÑA
338 km away (3h 30min) from Salta, Gral. Enrique Mosconi is one of the youngest towns in the province.
Origins of the town
The history of the camp dates back to 1906 when Don Francisco Tobar discovered oil outcrops on the slopes and bed of the Quebrada de Galarza, a deposit he named Mina República Argentina. The town originated on September 12, 1928, when the state company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF) discovered its first oil well called Vespucio 1 (V1). It takes its name from the Vespucio station, located at kilometer 1,690 of the railroad line. The "camp", as its name indicates, was born with the intention of being a transitory place, however, the boom of the oil activity made necessary the planning and design of a town with a totally modern urban infrastructure, buildings and services.
Black gold landscape
Following an ascending, zigzagging route framed by the green landscape of the yungas or mountain jungles, Vespucio is found. Visitors are struck by the urban layout: diagonal and sloping streets, historic buildings and museums, heritage of the "golden" era of oil exploitation in the area.
To walk through Vespucio is to travel through a part of Argentine history, to discover its magic through the stories of family members and former workers of the company, to admire its emblematic buildings, to marvel at its natural environment and to enjoy the variety of flora and fauna, with special emphasis on bird watching.
Vespucio, a Magical Place
It was born with the intention of being a transitory place but the boom of the oil activity made it necessary to build a town for the convenience and comfort of YPF employees. Thus, from the beginning, it was built in an orderly and planned manner, arranging the strategic location of each of its houses and public buildings. The unmissable is to walk through Camp Vespucio, its streets, buildings and museums take us to relive an era that the Vespuceños remember with emotion and nostalgia.
The Yacimiento Norte Administration
One of the oldest buildings in Vespucio, it is located on the access road to the town and stands out for its wooden architecture. This is where the General Administration of the YPF company worked, which is why it was one of the most important buildings in the Camp.

Built in 1933, the Social Club was used as a dining room and cafeteria for the employees, besides being the venue for the main social events. With a facade of neocolonial architecture, the hall has a capacity for 150 people; the club also has a tennis court, a paddle court and a swimming pool.
Municipal Movie Theater
The history of the YPF movie theater dates back to 1953, when the company decided to build it as part of its booming action in the middle of the mountains. Its architecture, closely linked to modernity, remains unscathed, almost untouched by the passage of time.
