This beautiful town is located 22 km (45min) from the capital of Salta, surrounded by exuberant vegetation, history and deep-rooted customs.

Nuestra Señora del Rosario Church

It was built by the Jesuits in the 17th century and is located next to the old Inca Trail, a route used by the inhabitants of that ancient empire. With an architecture that refers to its origins, the church is presented as a beautiful alternative for those who enjoy the history of the town.

The imposing Christ

Penitente is erected in the middle of green hills and stands out for its 28 meters high including its base, which protects the town and its church. At its base there is a modern chapel and a large landscaped area with facilities. A magnificent place to observe the Lerma Valley from its northern limit. Cerro de la Cruz A few meters from the town you can hike up the hill to enjoy the best view of the entire valley.

Handicrafts

In the town of La Caldera, several types of handicrafts are currently being made. It is worth mentioning in particular the leather crafts, since this originated in colonial times in a massive way, due to the amount of cattle especially, leaving La Caldera between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, the equestrian and livestock tradition that it has today. There is a fair of artisans in front of the main square and a workshop on the way to the Christ, which has a great variety of leather crafts, leather goods, horse clothing and basketry.

National Chicha Festival

The National Chicha Festival is held in March and is one of the most outstanding folkloric events in the country's festival calendar. It takes place in a covered area, where you can taste regional food, be part of the show of the mounts and the popular dance, and enjoy national artists of great relevance.

Campo Alegre Dam

It is an artificial lake, located 5 km from the town, whose waters are used to irrigate crops and as a water reserve for the city of Salta. It is ideal for sailing, fishing and water sports. Surrounded by hills and ravines, it is accessed by a mountain road along the Caldera River on National Route No. 9, towards the province of Jujuy. This reservoir and its surroundings are suitable for the development of sports activities, among which sailing, sport fishing, nautical sports, trekking and horseback riding in the surroundings stand out.

Bird watching

The Campo Alegre Dam and its reserve have very good conditions for bird watching, integrating different environments with jungle areas. Its avifaunistic richness stands out for its environmental continuity and articulation with the neighboring reserves in the region.

Cornice road

Leaving La Caldera towards Jujuy by National Route Nº 9, driving along a winding road of monumental living balconies, an incredible jungle appears. The clouds settle here during the summer, being one of the few places in the Yungas where you can travel and be part of a unique and strange climatic phenomenon. A rich and mysterious mist, known as "horizontal rain" bathes all surfaces, disappearing the space between the ground and the top of the trees.
