Mountaineering

Aventura

Due to its geographical location and the diverse and prodigious characteristics of its territory, Salta is home to a wide diversity of climates and heights of different characteristics, conducive to practicing mountaineering throughout the year.

The relief decreases, from west to east, from the Andes mountain range to the Chaco plain. Thus, the high mountain landscape is found in the western zone, where the hills and mountain ranges rise above the Puno plateau and reach over 6,000 meters.

Llullaillaco is one of the highest peaks, with 6,739 meters, as well as Aracar, at 6,095 m, on the border with the Republic of Chile, and Nevado de Cachi, at 6,300 m. To the northwest, where it borders the province of Jujuy, is the Sierra de Santa Victoria, with hills such as Negro and Azul that exceed 5,000 meters.

The puna is made up of highlands, which are plains located above 4,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by higher mountain ranges.

Those who want to climb the Llullaillaco volcano must apply for a permit.  +info.
