Naturaleza en Salta
Salta has different and rich protected ecosystems that give rise to the life of a vast flora and fauna.
Nature lovers will be able to enjoy walks through the high mountains of the Andes, the Yungas or the Andean highlands, all of them homes to unique specimens such as the andean condor, jaguars, vicuñas, rheas, flamingos and the tiny dwarf hummingbird.
MUST SEE
Acambuco Flora and Fauna Reserve
Created to promote the ecological restoration of the foothills jungle environment, this 36,734-hectare reserve is located in the municipality of Aguaray.
Home to forest species such as palo blanco, palo amarillo, cebil, nogal criollo and cedar, it completes its natural landscape with the presence of jaguars, tapirs, peccaries, cai monkey, coati and squirrel of the yungas.
Birdwatching lovers will be able to find here the green macaw, solitary eagle and royal crested eagle.
Reserve Los Palmares
Located in Apolinario Saravia (Anta department) this 10,000-hectare reserve preserves a representative sample of the Dry Chaco with a sparse community of native palm trees (white palm). To them are added the palo santo, quebracho colorado, guayacán, chañar and mistol.
As for the native fauna, you can see three species of peccaries, anteater, brown deer and vizcachas. Also suris, charatas, talkative parrot, chaja, jabiru, mountain guan, sirirí duck, piebald duck, cutirí duck.
Laguna Pintascayo Provincial Park
Home to the largest yunga lagoon in the country, the Provincial Park preserves a sample of foothill forest in its 13,000 hectares. Species such as the jaguar, puma, ocelot, tapir, capybara, reddish agouti, red deer, mayuato, caí monkeys, and alligator alligator live there. Also birds like pomay eagle, alder parrot, surucuá aurora, yapú, burgo, jabirú, aninga and mallard.
Among the flora, the yellow stick, urundel, maroma and white laurel stand out.
Quebrada de las Conchas Natural Reserve
With an approximate area of 25,874 hectares, the Reserve extends through the municipalities of La Viña, Guachipas and Cafayate.
An unmissable place for lovers of walks and photography, this protected area has species such as quebracho horco, guayacán, quebracho blanco, molle, cacti and two species of cardones.
Among its fauna is guanaco, mountain cat, collared peccary and corzuela, and among the birds the condor and the burrowing parrot stand out.
Finca Las Costas Water Reserve
Created to preserve the Yungas forests and an important source of drinking water, the Reserve is located in the municipality of San Lorenzo and has an area of 10,500 hectares.
Here you can find laurel de la skirt, Creole walnut, cedar from Salta, alders and hill pine.
On the other hand, the local fauna is integrated by the puma, collared peccary and corzuela. Also noteworthy are the mountain guan, Andean condor, comet hummingbird and woodpeckers.
Los Andes Wildlife Reserve
Created in 1980 by provincial decree No. 308, the Reserve is made up of two ecoregions: Puna and Altoandina. In its 1,440,000 hectares of extension is the Llullaillaco volcano, the place where the children of Llullaillaco were found in 1999.
In addition to the protectionist objective, the reserve is a space for scientific research since studies are carried out here aimed at the design and application of practices and sustainable management of the resources present in the area.
The presence of species such as vicuña, Andean cat, southern flamingo, small and large parina, horned coot and guayata stands out here.
Angastaco Natural Monument
An unmissable postcard for those who visit Salta and travel along Route 40, the monument protects the Quebrada de las Flechas in its 1,200 hectares.
The ecoregions present in this area are those of mount and prepuna, here abounds a flora represented by the black and white carob tree, pitch, jarilla, molle and creeping cacti.
Some of the mammals that inhabit it are the big-eared bat, small guinea pig and small gray fox.
