The City
Drawn up on June 20, 1873 and decreed departmental capital on March 11, 1874, the city of Rosario de la Frontera is one of the most important cities in the south of the province of Salta. With the possibility of taking baths with nine different types of thermal-mineral waters, relaxation is assured here.
For nature lovers, its green environment is the ideal place for bird watching and the practice of active tourism.
Square, promenades, plots of land
The main square of El Rosario is called "Independencia", it was laid out on June 20, 1873 as the center of the first nine blocks of the town. The Camino Real de Postas crossed this space diagonally southwest-northeast. In front of it was the house of the founder of the town, Mrs. Melchora Figueroa de Cornejo. The city has several promenades and lots ideal for recreation.
Parish "Nuestra Señora del Rosario"
Located in front of the main square, the foundation stone of the parish was laid in 1.874, on the land where it is currently located.The construction dates back to 1891 and it took 19 years to concrete it. Besides the beauty of its architecture, this church has a special history. Its distinctive bells and chimes were a typical feature of the town, since they were used to announce births, marriages or deaths, and with the first chime of the morning the opening time of the stores was announced.
Patronal Feast of the Virgin of the Rosary
On October 7, the celebration in honor of the Virgen del Rosario (former patron saint of Esteco) is held, where many people come from different places and nearby towns.
Municipal Theater
Inaugurated in 1947, the Cine Teatro "Güemes" is a cultural icon of the city. It was acquired by the municipality in 2013 and completely remodeled in 2018.
Provincial Museum of Fine Arts "Quinquela Martín".
Not to be missed in the city, just meters from the main square, this beautiful museum created in 1968, unique in Salta for its rich heritage consisting of paintings, engravings, lithographs, original sculptures and personal items of famous artists, including this famous Argentine painter from the neighborhood of La Boca.
Artisans' Walk
In front of the main square along San Martin Street is the Paseo de Artesanos, a modern attraction inaugurated in 2017 that brings together the best works of the creators of local crafts.
Forts and gaucho groups
In Rosario de la Frontera there are numerous forts and gaucho groups. On the last Saturday of August, the "Encuentro Nacional de Fortines Gauchos" is held in Balboa, 20 km east of the city. It is one of the biggest gaucho festivals in Argentina, gathering more than 1,000 participants. Not to be missed is the Creole lunch, the gaucho parades and the great popular dance.
Hotel Termas
One of the most traditional places to stay and enjoy the hot springs is this hotel, which is located in a beautiful building from 1880. In addition to the incredible waters in different baths and pools, you can do activities in the surroundings in contact with the lush vegetation, such as horseback riding, mountain biking, trekking and bird watching.
Golf
Rosario de la Frontera has a 9-hole golf club, pioneer in Argentina, where it is also possible to practice tennis and bocce.
Hot springs
Rosario de la Frontera is the thermal center par excellence of the province due to the quality and curative power of its thermal waters, originated in a deep geological crack, which allows the flow of other hot springs, from Rio Hondo in the province of Santiago del Estero to the neighboring country of Bolivia. In Rosario de la Frontera the first thermal establishment in South America was founded in 1880.

The city offers spa treatments and mud baths and numerous therapeutic options depending on the type of water, all provided by high-end hotels in the area, which also have pools with different types of hot springs and varied temperatures.
Adventure tourism in Rosario de la Frontera
The characteristics of the area make it possible to enjoy activities in contact with nature, such as trekking, horseback riding, mountain biking and bird watching in the hills surrounding the city.
The famous "Agua Palau", a local production, owes its name to the founder of the hotel, Dr. Antonio Palau, who knew how to appreciate scientifically, medicinally and commercially the thermal waters of the area. The mineral water of hyperthermal characteristic "Palau" is the first of its kind bottled and commercialized in Argentina, which turns the product into historical patrimony of Salta.

Rosario de la Frontera awaits the lovers of this activity with numerous ornithological species that dwell in its incredible landscapes of exuberant vegetation a few kilometers from the town.
Rosario de la Frontera Dam
The dam is located on the road to Route Nº 34, it is an incredible natural environment that attracts locals and tourists who visit the thermal city. The beauty of the natural space of the place is unique. The vegetation of the subtropical forest, the blue-green background of the hills of the chain of the Sierra de la Candelaria and the good waters constitute an ideal frame for the solace rest.
Fishing in the Dam
In this mirror of water you can fish pejerreyes, dentudos or tarariras and carps, there are also shrimps and perches. All this in a green, mystic, natural, calm landscape, excellent for relaxing. It also has a camping site with barbecue grills, a swimming pool and a buffet, beach volleyball and soccer fields, and recreational games for children.
Visit to El Naranjo
It is a picturesque place stopped in time a few kilometers from the city. Its name is due to the fruit orchards that the Jesuits installed along with flour mills and sawmills where they made the natives of these lands work. It highlights the small square surrounded by old warehouses, large houses and the chapel "Ntra. Sra. de Las Mercedes" of the town where there is an articulated Christ carved in wood by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century. Its patron saint's day is September 24.
Las Mojarras
This historic place is located 20 km northeast of the city. It has an attractive chapel called "Ntra. Sra. del Carmen" where there was an oratory where General Manuel Belgrano rested during the wars of Independence. Its patronal feast is on July 16th.
Thermal Water Park
Located 5 km east of the city of Rosario de la Frontera, along the former National Route 34, you access the property that has thermal water in its entirety. The grills are available there, which can be accessed by paying the entrance fee. The park has a pool for children and one for adults, grills, Caribbean-style buffet, soccer fields, beach volleyball court, water games, toilets and showers.
Artisans Walk
Walk through which you can appreciate and enjoy products made by the hands of artisans from the region. Each place has its own area, so you have to stop at each stall to see different crafts. The offer includes works in jewelry, wood, leather, metal, wool, among others. You can also see a mural worked with a false mosaic technique, showing the linked Argentine and Salta flags, and religious, archaeological, cultural and ideological scenes. On site, visitors can also enjoy a restaurant serving typical foods, confectioneries, and a multipurpose room.
El Salvador Hill
It is located on National Route No. 34, surrounding the Hotel Termas, it is one of the natural points that brings together the greatest amount of biodiversity in the city. It has two trails, “Aguas Chicas” and “Sendero de la Cruz”, without a doubt a beautiful place to enjoy nature and relax.
Ginés Palazón Walk
Located in the heart of the city, it is divided into functional sectors for residents of all ages. It has children's games, sports spaces, a walk for artisan producers, food stalls, a stage for shows, places for rest and recreation. In addition, you can see an extensive mural that represents prominent figures in history, immigrants, customs, natural heritage, and hot springs that characterize our city.
