A thriving city in the north

Located 286 km (3 hours) from Salta, it was the last city founded by the Spanish, at the end of the 18th century, to reinforce the link between Salta and the Bolivian city of Tarija. Due to an earthquake at the end of the 19th century that almost completely devastated it, it has buildings with modern characteristics, such as its Church.

General Pizarro Square

Its routes, its old and varied trees, its fountain, its statues, tell stories through time, in the silence of its sunny mornings and its hot afternoons. Join us to enjoy its silences and its history.

Santa Marta Square

Remodeled with a landscape and harmonious design, it provides a recreational green space to citizens and visitors. The square was named after a mutual agreement with the Colombian municipality of the same name, where the beginning and end of a colonial period are commemorated, with Santa Marta and Orán being the first and last cities founded by the Spanish in America, respectively. Today this green space pays homage to the native peoples, with a monument in their honor.

San Martin Square

The central square of public events of the city surprises every week with some cultural activity both on its stage “The Voices of Orán” and with the many proposals that they generate on its paths, such as the Oranenses Hands Fair, Collective Fair, activities educational and of course, the gastronomic services of the numerous establishments that feed the nightlife of this recently remodeled square.

Cathedral Church

Built in 1977 with a modern, unique and attractive design, it stands where the historic Mother Church stood, demolished five years before. It preserves the old original tower, renovated according to the new design. Inside you can find two images of the Virgen del Carmen and San Ramón Nonato, dating from the founding period, donated by Ramón García de León y Pizarro. Behind the main altar rest the remains of the Lieutenant Governor of Oran and Hero of Independence, Vicente Uriburu and those of the First Bishop of the Diocese of Oran.

Virgin of the Valley Church

Simple but exquisitely decorated with wood, with its immense tower with a viewpoint, the Virgen del Valle Church is located in the heart of the Güemes neighborhood, offering a privileged view from its tower, from where the cane fields and the coasts of Bermejo can be seen.

Patron Saint Festivities in August, in full color

For Oran, August is a month of deep faith; The town dresses up in this way, inviting visitors to enjoy its Patron Saint Festivities in honor of the Patron Saint San Ramón Nonato. The massive procession crosses the center of the city, ending the Celebration in the Cathedral, with a great fireworks show.

Monument to General Güemes

It has an incomparable view, being the second most important monument in the province of Salta. It is located in the homonymous neighborhood, in front of the Virgen del Valle Church.

Oran Regional Museum

This museum preserves the past of this city, the scientific study of the history and archeology of the area. It has an important collection of pieces from indigenous cultures that inhabited the area, as well as relevant testimonies from the colonial era, war weapons and objects belonging to the steam navigation stage of the Bermejo River.

House of Culture

You can discover the culture and history of the city in a space that permanently offers activities to see, listen, and learn. The workshops, amphitheater, exhibition halls, its own cinema and its enormous library are a must-see. The Cinema (INCAA Space) has a modern 3D projection system and holds premieres simultaneously with theaters in the country and the world. The Library has a Digital Point with Cinema and recreation room.

Oran Festival

This folklore festival is also added, one of the most important in Salta in commemoration of the Foundation and the Patron Saint Festival of San Ramón Nonato, popularly known as Festi Orán. It brings together nationally renowned artists and a large audience from different places in Salta and Bolivia. The three nights of the festival include the night before and after the patron saint's day.

Color Corsicans

The Oran corsicans in the summer are among the most notable in Salta. The parades exhibit colorful native troupes with giant hats, murgas, tinkus and “pim pim”, traditional Bolivian troupes that give color to the Oran summer.

Original communities in Oran

There are numerous communities belonging to the Guaraní and Kolla ethnic groups that persist in the region. The wooden crafts, the traditional dances such as the “pim pim” and the daily life of these residents speak of inhabitants who keep their roots intact.

Handicrafts

In Oran there are crafts made of brightly colored woods such as palo santo, guayacán, quebracho and mistol. The residents also work with a plant fiber called “chaguar” to make original fabrics, bags and belts, with ancestral production techniques.

Salvador Hernández Kartódromo

Orán has a kart track located near the Municipal Sports Field; It has a track in excellent condition where every weekend you can enjoy Karting races in different categories and also motorcycle races in the FZ category among others.

Laguna Pintascayo Provincial Reserve

It is one of the core areas of the Yungas Biosphere Reserve. It was created in 2000 by Provincial Decree and declared by BirdLife International as an AICA site (Important Bird Conservation Areas). It is located about 20 kilometers from the city of Oran. You can observe birds, such as toucans, wild guans and the golden-necked ara or maracaná, surrounded by species such as the lapacho, cinchona, cebil, yellow stick, white stick, afata, cedar and oak, laurels and myrtaceae.

Fishing with return in the Bermejo River

In this imposing and mighty river you can take fishing excursions with specialized guides who offer fishing day programs that take up several days. The river offers varieties such as large surubíes and dorados, which are caught with mandatory return.

Photography and bird watching safaris

The road to San Andrés and the surroundings of Oran are ideal places for bird watching and photographic safaris, allowing lovers of this activity to have a record of the incredible flora and fauna of the area.

Yungas jungle in Oran

This incredible jungle enters our country from Bolivia. There are very rich plant species, such as epiphytes and different levels of vegetation, represented by species that make up the so-called “Palo Blanco and Palo Amarillo Jungle.” Among the most notable fauna are macaws, medium and large-sized birds and mammals, toucans, wild turkeys, corzuelas, parrots, foxes, tapirs, peccaries, and monkeys.

Road to San Andrés

Close to the city of Oran, with leafy and humid trees, of great height and after two hours of walking, the small town appears in a totally different environment, since the height rises during the tour. One of the characteristics of this road is that it crosses three strata of the yunga forest, being able to appreciate the transformation of the yunga to montane forest in the upper section. The most adventurous can enjoy this landscape practicing trekking and mountain biking in the heart of the Yungas jungle.

Saint Andrew

It is a place where the Andean culture is present in the way of life of its inhabitants, dedicated to pastoralism and the artisanal manufacture of fabrics and tapestries. Visitors can find crafts and taste regional preparations in the middle of an incredible natural landscape.

The Orange trees

A few kilometers from the city is this small Kolla community of just over 300 inhabitants, where the landscape is crisscrossed by green elevations and citrus groves. It is unmissable to experience a day in contact with nature and the customs of the local residents. The main festival in honor of Pachamama takes place here, where you can enjoy the ancestral customs of the community.

Portillo Canyon

This impressive canyon is a unique place, a work started by a hero of Independence, D. Vicente Uriburu, whose purpose was to divert the waters of the Iruya River to avoid flooding in the city 150 years ago. It is a place admired and studied by geologists due to its geosynclinal profiles from the Tertiary era.

Hidden Gorge

Just 17 km from the city and on one side of Provincial Route 18, is this wonderful place, ideal for bird watching, walks through the jungle that can be done in a half-day (4 hours/5 hours) offering a unique contact with nature, crossing the ravine until reaching the river.
